Vegetables Your Dog Can Eat: An Overview

Which vegetables are healthy for your dog? Broccoli, peas, beans, cucumber, spinach, Brussels sprouts, carrots, quinoa, buckwheat, parsnips, beetroot, pumpkin , and corn are all vegetables your dog can eat without any problems. Raw vegetables are a bit harder for your dog to digest than lightly cooked vegetables. Therefore, it's recommended to puree and lightly cook the vegetables. This way, your four-legged friend can not only enjoy delicious snacks but also absorb the vitamins and minerals from the vegetables. In our PAWR meals, all the vegetables are already cooked and therefore easy to digest!

Fruits your dog can eat

Does your four-legged friend love fruit? Then treat him to healthy options. Fruit is rich in antioxidants that neutralize free radicals in your dog's cells, keeping him healthy longer. Suitable fruits include strawberries, Raspberries, apples, blueberries, bilberries, mangoes, watermelon, melon, peaches, pineapple, and kiwi. Be sure to remove the pits, as they are harmful to your dog. Don't give your dog a whole fruit salad right away, and always consider the size of your dog.

Avoiding Fruits and Vegetables: What to Look Out For

Not all vegetables we take for granted are safe for your dog. Examples include mushrooms and toadstools . We find them delicious, but they can actually make your dog very sick. Vegetables like onions, leeks , and chives can be harmful and even poisonous. Eating them can cause diarrhea and stomach pain in your dog. So be vigilant and make sure your dog doesn't eat them.

Starchy vegetables, such as potatoes , are harder for dogs to digest when uncooked. Raw potatoes contain the toxic substance solanine. This toxin disappears during cooking. Also be careful with tubers and give small pieces rather than large quantities.

Fruits your dog should avoid

General rule: Avoid pits in fruit. Grapes, cherries , and avocados are not suitable for your dog. Currants and raisins are made from grapes, which also makes them unsuitable as a dog treat. Limes and lemons are also not healthy fruits for your dog.

While you can give your dog many types of fruit, you should avoid seeds . Grape seeds are poisonous, as are the seeds of apples, pears, peaches, mangoes, cherries, and plums. Remember: dogs shouldn't eat seeds, except for watermelon seeds. Watermelon seeds are harmless. Be careful with cherries—anything but the flesh is poisonous to your dog. Treat your furry friend responsibly with these tasty and safe fruit and vegetable treats!
